WhatsApp offers its Android app to a select group of users with theming options
WhatsApp is gradually rolling out a new customization feature to a subset of its Android users. WhatsApp adds themes to allow users to change the color of chat bubbles and backgrounds, giving them more control over how individual chat appears.
The themes are reportedly rolling out on Android WhatsApp Beta, beginning with build 2.24.21.34, according to Wabetainfo. Only a few days had passed since comparable functionality for WhatsApp Beta on iOS was found when the rollout was announced. It can take a few days for themes to become available on your Android devices, even if you’re using the beta version of the messenger.
Presets containing a wallpaper and complementary color scheme are available for selection. These can be applied to each chat or all of them. You should also be able to use the wallpaper and chat colors independently from a larger selection of backgrounds and color schemes.
There are currently more than 20 distinct colors and pre-set themes available. Though themes aren’t yet in the stable channel and are only accessible to beta testers, they might not look exactly like the final version, that is available to all WhatsApp users. It’s important to remember that themes are exclusive to your chats and won’t be available to others.
WhatsApp has a wide user base, but it has only provided a few options to change the interface colors so far. On Android, these options are primarily shades of green, and on iOS, they are white and blue. On the other hand, numerous popular messaging apps, like Telegram, provide a wide range of visual customization options, particularly about color schemes and themes.
Instagram and Facebook Messenger, two of Meta’s other apps, have long provided interactive theming choices. On the other hand, any UI modifications are limited to individual chats and replicated for every chat member, in contrast to the anticipated change in WhatsApp.
It’s interesting to note that in the early days of the app, unofficial and altered versions of WhatsApp, such as one known as “WhatsApp+,” gained popularity due to their theming options. To discourage people from using these versions, Meta (Facebook at the time) ultimately banned users for a short while and blocked all unofficial versions.

A Guide for Android Beta Users
So that WhatsApp can gather feedback, make necessary improvements and work out any kinks in the feature before releasing it to a larger user base, themes are currently being released in a controlled manner.
Update the app after signing up to be a beta tester here, if you want to test themes and other experimental features from WhatsApp on your Android phone. Recall that doing so might cause you to experience a few minor problems with the way the app works.
