The 33-year-old was expecting to win more to take back the title, that she so valiantly captured in Tokyo, but she was forced to withdraw just before the event started at 10 a.m.

We can officially announce that Kate French has withdrawn from today’s modern pentathlon final, due to illness. In a statement on X, Team GB declared. “Kate was hoping, to compete in the Olympic jumping competition one last time and defend her title, But she was forced to make a very difficult choice.”

The French were among the favorites to win, a medal after they easily advanced from the semi-final on Saturday.

Kerenza Bryson, a formidable competitor for the title who set an Olympic record in winning her semi-final, is another strong contender for Team GB.

Three years ago, Joe Choong, the gold medallist in the men’s modern pentathlon in Tokyo, placed well outside the medal hunt, causing disappointment for Team GB at the event in Paris.

Positioned ninth on Saturday was the 29-year-old. Following the competition, he hinted that if Team GB had also chosen his girlfriend, he would have done better in Paris in 2024. In the previous year’s European Games, Olivia Green took home a bronze.

“A happy athlete is a good athlete,” as the saying goes, and I believe that to be true. He stated. “It’s been a few months since I felt particularly satisfied with the training environment”.

He continued, “My girlfriend.” I wanted my family to be my rivals. That entire process was quite depressing. The process of making decisions was a bit beyond my comprehension. Resolving that has not been easy. It greatly increased the mental strain of my work.
