Stephen Daldry Fined Over £2,000 for Over speeding Offence In London By Court

By using the Single Justice Procedure, Stephen Daldry entered a guilty plea and avoided making an appearance in court.

A judge has ordered acclaimed director Stephen Daldry to pay out over £2,000 after he observed speeding in a 20 mph zone in London.

The 64-year-old realized driving the Volkswagen Golf that photographed on New Year’s Day in Hackney by a speed camera.

The offense occurred while Daldry’s car was traveling at 36 mph along Homerton Road, which runs along the edge of Hackney Marshes.

He ordered to pay a £1538 fine, £100 in costs, and a £615 victim surcharge resulting from his behind-closed-doors prosecution in the Single Justice Procedure last month.

The magistrate, who sitting alone and assisted by a legally qualified adviser, assessed a fine that exceeded the maximum sanction permitted for speeding on non-motorway roads.

Daldry produced and directed episodes of The Crown to helming successful films such as Billy Elliot, The Hours, and The Reader.

His work on stage and screen, he has won BAFTA, Emmy, and Tony awards. In 2004, he was given a CBE for his services to drama.

The Metropolitan Police brought charges against Daldry. Who on January 30th acknowledged in writing that he was the driver in question.

He was sentenced without an open court hearing, on July 19 at Willesden Magistrates Court after entering a written guilty plea to the speeding charge.

Daldry was given six points on his driver’s license and told by Magistrate Anthony Wilkinson to pay the £2,253 fine and court costs by the middle of August.

The same section of Homerton Road where Simon Pegg star of Mission Impossible, was speeding in October of last year where the director caught.

Pegg, the camera also captured traveling at 36 mph, had a one-year driving ban imposed on him. Because of prior infractions on his license.

A £266 victim surcharge, £90 in costs and a £665 fine were also imposed upon him.
