NI News | Ill Child Parents Thanked Who Came to His Aid

"recovering well"

The parents of a small child who became unwell at a recreation center in Co. Antrim have expressed gratitude to those who helped them.

After an “incident” at the Ballymoney Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, Benjamin Trela was sent to the hospital.

According to his family, he is “recovering well” today and should be discharged from the hospital tomorrow.

Benjamin’s parents said in a statement issued through a local council member that their son is “full of life this morning.”

Eliza and Lukasz, Benjamin’s parents, posted on the Causeway Coast Community Facebook page that they wished to extend their sincere gratitude to the medical staff, lifeguards, and employees of the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre.

“Eliza and her parents express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children for their support and care after the traumatic experience,” the statement continued.

Tomorrow is anticipated to see Benjamin’s hospital discharge.

When the child had trouble in the water on Friday night, emergency personnel were called to the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre.

The center’s swimming pools were later shut down.

Two Rapid Response Paramedics and an Emergency Crew were dispatched to the scene shortly after 3.52 p.m., according to the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), who said they responded quickly.

Additionally, the Air Ambulance was sent out with a crew of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS).

Medical personnel evaluated the child right away and gave urgent care.

The young patient was then taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children by ambulance so that he could receive additional care.

Darryl Wilson, a local UUP councilor, stated: “We are grateful for the good news about the child who was a part of the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre pool incident.

“We’re encouraged by his progress and grateful for the excellent care our health services have provided him, even though it’s early in his recovery.”

Mr Wilson: “I would like to thank the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, first responders, council workers, and everyone else who acted quickly and professionally in handling this grave situation.”
