A 12-year-old boy was taken into custody on suspicion of arson after a major fire in Crewe that forced several locals to leave their homes.

The fire on Catherine Street, which started in a vacant printer on Friday afternoon is still being attended to by emergency services. According to a statemen, from Cheshire Constabulary on Saturday.

On suspicion of arson with the intent to endanger life, the suspect was taken into custody.

There have been no reports of injuries from the fire.

However, the smoke and damage stopped some residents from returning to their homes. As a result, the nearby Crewe Lifestyle Centre has been converted into a rest center for those impacted.

According to officers, they think the incident “isolated” and unrelated to the recent riots.
