Police in Portsmouth and Southsea Arrested Two Men as Suspects of Theft

Early Release Prisoner Charged with Sexual Assault After Kent Incident

After an incident in Southsea on August 20, police officers stopped, a car on Milton Road in Waterlooville on Monday, September 2, and took into custody. A 23-year-old man from Havant on suspicion of robbery. Additional arrests resulted from the stop, including one for driving while ineligible and one for drug use, with one passenger also being detained for theft.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: We have been informed that on Tuesday, August 20, just before 5:15 p.m., a man was robbed in the Southsea Rose Gardens, and his credit card was taken. The 23-year-old Havant resident was placed under conditional bail until Monday, December 2, after being detained on suspicion of robbery in connection with this offense.

“The man was also taken into custody on Monday, September 2, during the traffic stop on suspicion of driving while ineligible and using drugs. In light of these offenses, he has been freed while the investigation is ongoing.

Upon searching the car, the police discovered £500 worth of groceries, which prompted them to arrest him on suspicion of shoplifting. Since then, no further action has been taken in relation to that offense, and he has been released.

A 36-year-old Portsmouth resident, who was also detained on suspicion of stealing from a store, was also found inside the car. He is free on bond through Monday, December 2.

The Havant resident, 23, was also detained in connection with a domestic incident for which the police are currently unable to provide any additional details.
