Three Police Officers under Assault at Manchester Airport of Terminal Two

Greater Manchester Police have reported that three officers assaulted at Manchester Airport and sustained injuries. The force further stated that on Wednesday morning, August 21, they were attacked while looking into an uninsured, abandoned car in an unauthorized area at Terminal Two.

One person was “confronted” by police, who then used a Taser on them. Three people were taken into custody: two women and one man. Two men and a woman were among the injured officers.

Greater Manchester Police released the statement: “At Manchester Airport, patrolling officers examined an abandoned car in an unauthorized area at approximately 7:15 a.m. Three of our unarmed officers were attacked and injured by a man. Who confronted the officers, while they were conducting inquiries. Which revealed the car was uninsured.

“After the use of a Taser, two women and a man were detained on suspicion of attacking police officers. All of them are on bail, while additional enquiries are conducted. A review of body-worn video, CCTV and other available footage is part of the ongoing enquiries.

“Assaults on officers are unacceptable and we will not hesitate to take action, should any criminal offenses be found.” The attack comes one month after a well-publicized incident at Manchester Airport involving GMP officers. Three police officers suffered injuries.

The force opened an investigation on July 23 after video of violent scenes appeared. In the first video, which quickly gained popularity on social media, a policeman can be seen kicking and stamping on a man’s head while he is on the ground.

According to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), there is still a criminal investigation ongoing against two officers for alleged assault related to the incident. In a later update, GMP stated that, it had sent the CPS a “comprehensive file of evidence” ‘for advice’.

According to the force, the evidence is one aspect of an “investigation into a series of alleged criminal offenses.” Remaining on police bail are four men.
