Penny Mordaunt defeated by Labour candidate

Voters in Northern Ireland now know who will represent them in parliament for the next few years, as all 18 constituencies have been declared.

Seven seats have a new MP for the constituents, sometimes for the first time in a long time.

With the collapse of Conservative support, Penny Mordaunt loses her seat.

Penny Mordaunt, the leader of the House of Commons, lost her Portsmouth North constituency by a narrow margin.

The historically reliable seat was won by Labour’s Amanda Martin with 14,495 votes against Ms. Mordaunt’s 13,715—an 18% swing.

Since 2010, Ms. Mordaunt has served as the MP for Portsmouth North, and since 2022, she has also served as the Lord President of the Council.

There were audible gasps of shock at Portsmouth Guildhall when the result was announced.
