At the men’s keirin cycling event of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Hamish Turnbull, a rider for Team GB, got hurt in a serious accident.

The men’s keirin rider for Team GB, Hamish Turnbull had a terrifying crash during the Paris 2024 Olympics. Ending his hopes of taking home a medal.

The 25-year-old turned abruptly to try to avoid Lucas Spiegel of Germany. Who lost control of his bicycle crashed in front of him and then he hit the deck.

As the Briton writhed in agony on the ground. His Team GB outfit ripped to shreds on the back from the impact of the fall, medics hurried to his aid immediately.

He managed to stand up, but Turnbull appeared uneasy as he walked off the track. Turnbull observed cautiously leaving with assistance from medical personnel.

At the time of the crash, he was estimated to have been riding at 49.5 mph (79.8 kph) with the other five cyclists closely following behind.

Spiegel seemed to wobble on the inside and clip the back of another bicycle. Sending Turnbull flying high and wide across the track in an attempt to avoid the collision.

But he missed the angle and smashed into the barrier, leaving the rider with a painful injury.

Sadly, the cyclist from Morpeth will not be able to add to his silver medal from the sprint event as he was unable to make it to the final.

Along with Carlin and Ed Lowe, he took home the silver in the men’s team sprint event on Tuesday. However, his DNF prevented him from representing Team GB in the medal race.

As they compete for a medal, Australia’s Matthew Richardson, the Netherlands’ Harrie Lavreysen and Japan’s Kaiya Ota advance with Team GB’s Jack Carlin cutting.

Turnbull’s disappointing exit from the Games, comes from not winning a medal in the individual sprint. In his first of three quarterfinal matches. He triumphed over Jeffrey Hoogland of the Netherlands.

Although he finished seventh overall in the sprint rankings. He was defeated in the other two races to the line. Which advanced his Dutch opponent to the semi-finals at his expense.
