Cambridgeshire Residents Who Owned “Zombie-Style” Knives Can Hand Over to Police

A month-long amnesty is encouraging people, who own “zombie-style” knives and machetes to turn them in to the police in exchange for cash. Owners who surrender their weapons, during the month-long amnesty period will be eligible to receive payment.

After amendments to the Offensive Weapons Act, it is now unlawful to possess zombie knives. Even if, they are stored on private property. An upcoming law will outlaw weapons akin to “zombie-style” weapons.

To get rid of the weapons, people can go to Parkside Police Station in Cambridge or Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough starting on Monday, August 26. The promotion is open through September 23.

“Please urge anyone you know who owns one of these weapons to turn it in. You will be contributing to the county’s safety and guaranteeing their innocence if you take this action.”

Before leaving, people are urged to confirm the police stations’ opening hours. If five or more items need to be turned in at once. An appointment is only required.

A form that needs to be filled out by owners, should be downloaded and printed beforehand. On the official government website. A copy of this form is available. Subject to availability, copies might be available at the police stations.

A government department will process the forms and get in touch with the owners about compensation. Cambridgeshire Constabulary will not be involved in the compensation process and no payment will be made at the police station.
