London Police Appealed for Witness

Crime in London News | The victim, a woman in her 20s, saw a man close behind her as she was walking along Kingsland Road, E8, on Monday, July 15, just before 1:00 a.m. When there was enough room, she moved aside to make space for him to pass and kept going walking.

When the victim turned to cross Downham Road, she saw the suspect standing in front of her, reaching out a hand to put it to her face.

The suspect chased after the victim as she fled across both lanes of Kingsland Road, grabbed her arm, and then sexually assaulted her. Then he dragged her violently into a driveway. The suspect covered the victim’s mouth as she cried out for assistance.

Fortunately, a bicycle-riding delivery man heard her screams and looked down the driveway, which enabled the victim to get away. Then the suspect left with a calm demeanor.

Chief Investigator Rajkumar Anton Arulnayagam of the Central East region’s CID explained

We are set to find this predatory man as soon as possible because he poses a serious risk to women.

The area was busy and well-lit at the time of the incident. A large number of people heading home after the Euros final. I would be interested in speaking with anyone, who has dashcam footage or may have seen the suspect. Further, I would like the delivery man who heard the victim scream and let her go to come forward and talk to us.

We acknowledge that you helped the victim. Your testimony may be crucial in holding the offender accountable. As such, you are being treated as a key witness.

If anyone recognizes the man, police have asked that they notify them to call 101.
