Thunderstorm Rain Warning For Northern Ireland

Parts of Northern Ireland may experience disruptions on Sunday night due to heavy, thunderous rain.

A thunderstorm warning has been issued by the Met Office for Sunday night and Monday morning, from midnight to 07:00 BST.

Where thunderstorms do occur, they may bring frequent lightning, gusty winds and possibly large hail. Though not all areas will be affected.

It is expected that, the small area of rain will swiftly move eastward and that Monday morning’s breakfast will mark the end of the worst of the weather.

MET Office Warning

The downpours could be strong, despite their short duration in certain locations, 20–40 mm of rain are expected to fall in an hour.

Before the rain stops, some places might receive as much as 60 mm.

For the Republic of Ireland, Met Éireann has also issued a Status Yellow rain warning.

Thunderous downpours predicted to move eastward, across the nation overnight with the warning in effect from 22:00 BST on Sunday until 08:00 on Monday.

Due to sudden flooding and spray from the heavy rain, driving conditions could become dangerous.

The Met Office issuing a warning regarding the possibility of power outages and structural damage from hail, lightning, floods or strong winds.

There’s a chance of sudden flooding for some residences and commercial spaces.
